Overcoming Temptation
Every natural man has strength. Gen 1: 28, Gen. 11:6
.Every natural man has limitations or weaknesses.Math 26:41, Mk 14:38
Strength and limitation of Jesus and every individual varies from person to person i.e measure of faith). Rm.12 :3. Rm 2Cor 10:15, Ephe. 4:15
Devil work with information on the above to tempt man: Job1:9., 3:25,9:,30:15
He tempts man along the line of information he has gathered concerning his weakness on his strength. James 1: 1:-end.
Weaknesses in man is like a vacuum.
As the saying goes that nature abhors vacuum. A vacuum is an enclosed empty space without air .This is also true of spiritual vacuum. In the spiritual realm a vacuum is likened to weakness. As the air in nature is exerting force on the vacuum to fill it , so is temptation exerting pressure on weaknesses in spiritual realm
The spiritual vacuum in a man's life attracts the flesh, the world and the devil to impress man with temptations. Rm 1:29.
Jesus Christ gave us a classical case study of a man possessed with demons in Mathew 12:43-45

43"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation."

This is why the scripture advises us to get the vacuum in our lives filled with the holy spirit. Ephe.5:18,Eph 3:19. Phillip 1:11

The first step in the issue of temptation is to avoid it. The way to this is
identify your weaknesses.
Then start praying over it.

The Lord's Prayer in Mt 6:13
" And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

Before the Lord leads into temptation you are first guilty of weakness, he allows the temptation so as to help you overcome your weakness. James 1
Mt 26:41" Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
Mr 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
The word "watch" in the above scriptures denotes identification of weaknesses..
Lu 4:13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
Lu 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Lu 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
Lu 22:40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
Lu 22:46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

The other proactive steps to take is to be filled with Holy Spirit.

Believe and receive the baptism of Holy Spirit.
Dare to manifest the fruit of the Holy Spirit
Always fellowship with Holy Spirit. Hymns, Praises, Word of God.
Wait on Holy Spirit over every issue of live. Regard him as live partner.

Ro 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Ga 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Ga 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
